This website accompanies an ongoing book project on
traveling from Europe to Asia, and within Asia,
without ever having to take aircraft. All travel
options that will be discussed in the book are
entirely surface-based.
Even though overland travel in Asia can sometimes be
an adventure, the book is not directed to the
adventurer, or anybody for whom overland travel would
be a sporting challenge.
Rather the opposite: the book and the wensite are
dedicated to providing information on how to travel
overland in Asia most comfortably, most quickly, most
comfortably, and as safe as possible. |

Furthermore, the book and the webbsite aim to
concentrate on the hard part. To catch a train from
Beijing to Hongkong, or from Bangkok to Singapore, you
want need a book, or the information provided on this
website. You can find enough free, and nevertheless
reliable, information on this on the Internet, or you
can just ask at a railway station. |
But how about the Hongkong - Bangkok leg? Or Jakarta -
Warsaw when you're European and have a slim chance of
getting a Russian visa (because you already had one a
few months back). The guiding principle for the book and this website
is: we don't cover topics that are well-covered on
free public-access sources.
